OUR HISTORY & FUTURE

Formerly known as the Wombwell Sub Aqua Club, the club has was formed in 1984 by Mr John Gill, our president, and was based at the Wombwell Swimming Pool until its closure a few years ago. We have since re-branded as ‘Dearne Valley Divers’ to reflect our coverage across the Dearne Valley regeneration area.

The club has members of all ages with many youngsters and some pensioners. We have snorkel members who are interested in learning to snorkel and the club has also trained many divers over the years.

We have a great social side to the club with regular club meals, BBQs when the weather permits and parties. Pam organises the social club with help from Jean and Phoebe. We have a Club Boat (RIB) called Bluefin and we use her to dive the wrecks off the East Coast, Bridlington and Hornsea. We usually have an annual trip to Oban where we dive the sound of Mull.

We meet every Monday Night at 8.30pm (better to come for 8.15) at the Dearne Leisure Centre in Goldthorpe and spend an hour or so in the pool. To support training, we have kit that members are welcome to borrow and several dive instructors to help train new members. We then retire to the Blue Bell Inn on Manvers Way for a drink and a social chat. All welcome.
