“Far from blindness owning me, I OWN IT”

We had the pleasure of a try dive with Dominic Roberts and his partner Samantha Crouch on Monday. Dominic has a hereditary eye condition called Retinitis Disease which at his stage causes him to see as though he is looking through a pinhole with no peripheral vision. A great try dive session and as Dominic puts it, “Far from blindness owning me I OWN IT”. Dominic has written a fantastic poem about Scuba diving which is below. (he has also written a book called Blinded by the write) 👌🤿

MY DREAM DIVE…….
On with the wetsuit, bottles on my back
Mask and regulator sorted, we’re nicely on track
Fins on my feet, belt round my waist
Knife on my leg, let’s get going
I eagerly shout in haste
Sat on the boat, back towards the sea
I role in backwards im in yippeeeeeee
I get my bearings and gather my thoughts
Remembering everything that I’ve been taught
It’s so so beautiful, crystal clear
I’m in paradise, I have no fear
Deeper I go, im so in awe
I see a shipwreck, I want to explore
Beautiful fishes pass me by, colours of the rainbow
My oh my.
It’s so peaceful, so chilled so calm
I know for a fact I’ll come to no harm
The sound of my breathing, the bubbles go pop
So relaxing and fab, the fun shouldn’t stop.
I kick my legs or should I say flutter
Cutting through the water
Like a knife through butter
I get to the wreck and peer inside
I wonder what treasures this beauty does hide
The sight before me fills me with glee
In I go let’s go see
Magical things all over the place
Old forgotten remnants in every space
Rusty old cannons looking so grand
I rub away the debris and the centuries of sand
Deeper I go into this galleon of old
Looking for silver, diamonds and gold.
No such luck, my quest holds no fruits
Just a rotten old pair of swashbuckling boots
A treasure chest is nowhere to be seen
Them rotten old pirates are so bloody mean
But wait a second I see a glint, is it a sapphire worth a mint
I grab it and clean it and wow im in shock
It’s only a diamond shaped shiny blue rock
Is it the real thing, by eck it is
My thoughts go crazy im in a tiz
Alas my adventure is coming to an end
My airs getting low, I need to ascend
Back to the surface and on to the boat
I’ve struck it rich, time to gloat.
I weigh in my loot and and I get my dosh
It’s the grand life for me, I’m going all posh
But damn I get startled, there’s a ringing in my head
It’s the flippin alarm clock, I’m in mi bed
A dream it was how gutted am i
Back to normality, I could cry
But I’ll not miss what I never had
I’ll still be this crazy Yorkshire lad
